“Mental health problems don’t define who you are. They are something you experience. You walk in the rain and you feel the rain, but you are not the rain” – Matt Haig

Welcome.  My name is Emily, and I am dedicated to working with children, teens, and adults to address their individual mental health needs. With a strong foundation in Psychology and Sociology from Arizona State University and Barrett, The Honors College, I am passionate about supporting individuals on their journey toward mental wellness.

My interest in helping youth populations within the mental health field was sparked during my undergraduate studies while working at a children’s summer camp at ASU. This passion was further fueled through my role as a paraprofessional at an elementary school, where I assisted students aged 5-12 with behavioral, developmental, emotional, and academic needs. In this position, I participated in counseling groups led by the school psychologist, focusing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and social-emotional learning.

In addition, I provide Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapy to children on the autism spectrum at an autism clinic, supporting their social and daily living skills. This role has allowed me to develop a deeper understanding of the unique challenges faced by these children and their families.

At Healing Hartze, I utilize therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Play Therapy, modified Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness techniques. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and will utilize this approach when appropriate. I tailor each treatment plan to the unique needs of my clients, working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, communication difficulties, trauma, and more.

Understanding that mental health can be a sensitive topic, I strive to create a safe, welcoming space for all who seek support, regardless of age or challenges. I encourage anyone seeking mental health services for themselves or their children and applaud your courage in taking this step. I am honored to be part of your journey, whether it be for healing, learning, closure, or any other needs you may have.

What is EMDR therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders. EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. For many clients, EMDR therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than other psychotherapies.
